Welcome to El Remanso Lodge
With its pristine, virgin rainforests and empty Pacific beaches, Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. And not many hotels on the Osa Peninsula encapsulate the natural wonders of the Osa Peninsula more than El Remanso Lodge.
This rustic-chic hotel is a haven of nature and peace, down near Cape Matapalo (and close to Matapalo Beach) near the peninsula's southern tip. El Remanso Lodge is a perfect place to enjoy and explore rainforests and beaches while staying in one place.
A Local Beacon Of Sustainability
Founded in 1999, El Remanso Lodge sits on 185 acres of private rainforest reserve and is a true stalwart of eco-awareness and sustainability on the Osa Peninsula. El Remanso Lodge generates all of its power (one of the first hotels in Costa Rica to do so) and runs a composting system. It also focuses a lot of energy on other forms of sustainability, including hiring and training local talent and acting as stewards to the surrounding area by running local reforestation programs.
The hotel also highlights local talent with a gift shop showcasing local arts and crafts.
Well Turned-Out And Comfortable Rooms & A Canopy-Level Restaurant
Guests arriving at El Remanso Lodge find a haven of wildlife and forest with modern standards of hospitality.
Everything at the hotel, from the lobby to the rooms, has been designed to blend seamlessly into the surroundings, allowing you to enjoy the sounds and sights of the rainforest.
The rooms have netting for windows instead of glass, akin to sleeping in a tent and keeping you connected to the outside world. The songs of frogs and owls lull guests to sleep, and the chatter of parrots and the growls of monkeys wake them up in the morning.
The 14 rooms and suites at El Remanso Lodge come well turned out and eminently comfortable with king-size beds and rainforest or ocean-view terraces. All accommodations are solar-powered with battery backup so guests can use their fans, charge their devices, and access hot water at any time.
Some rooms also have private plunge pools to enjoy while listening to the sounds of the rainforest and feeling the ocean breeze.
A stay at El Remanso Lodge includes three meals per day from the restaurant, which sits high amid the rainforest canopy. It has a la carte menu that combines the best Costa Rican flavors with international twists. Meals combine healthy and tasty options, such as vegetarian choices. Most food is locally sourced. The Osa Peninsula is all about enjoying and experiencing nature at its finest.
Explore The Beach And The Forest - Or Do Nothing
Take a morning hike and head to the beach, across two of the well-maintained trails that expand from the hotel. One of them is a half-a-mile downhill walk and the other a three-mile trail.
Once at the beach (don't swim here, the currents are fierce - although there are tidal pools to relax in), enjoy a beachcomber or stretch out in the sun.
In keeping with the area, the beach is generally deserted, a quiet place where the rainforest meets the pounding Pacific Ocean. Spot pelicans, hawks, and crabs. Sometimes you might even see the tracks or elusive tapirs or jaguars.
The hotel also offers guided adventure tours and hiking trails. Follow an expert around the reserve for an early birdwatching tour, and snap as many photos as possible. Or hit the road at dusk for a night hike, and discover the animals that hide in the dark.
And, of course, there's the fantastic Corcovado National Park, the jewel in the crown of Costa Rica's national park system. El Remanso Lodge is close to the park and can arrange guided hikes for you in this special place.
Staying closer to the hotel, guests can also enjoy a beautiful swimming pool, a perfect way to end a day of hiking in the rainforest, or even to spend a day simply doing nothing but relax.
