Welcome to Poás Volcano Lodge

Poás Volcano Lodge is a cozy boutique hotel set amid rolling pastureland in the hills near the Poás Volcano National Park in Alajuela, close to the Central Valley. The lodge offers beautiful, rustic rooms with a modern feel and many common areas for guests to enjoy. Delicious food, a well-stocked library, a cinema, and a games room are some of the on-site amenities. Outside, there's a working dairy farm and opportunities to explore the surrounding nature. Stunning volcano views, cloud forests, and the local fauna are central to the experience at this rural lodge.
The cozy hotel was the home of a family that decided to share the beauties of their dairy farm with the outside world. Although cows and other farm animals are around, your stay at Poás Volcano Lodge is intimate and quiet.

A Cozy & Boutique Feel

Poás Volcano Lodge is a small boutique hotel with just 12 rooms, each with its character. They all come with various bed types - king size or queen size with extra beds in some rooms - and amenities including wifi, heaters, and other features to create a comfy stay. However, be aware that there are no TVs in the rooms.
No televisions don’t mean any entertainment, though. Poás Volcano Lodge is significant in its communal entertainment with a well-stocked library so guests can curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book. There's also a cinema room with a great collection of movies and an excellent games room complete with a pool table.

Explore the Surrounding Countryside

Outside the hotel, guests will find an area of rolling hills and well-kept gardens. Clouds from the surrounding forest come and go with the wind, and sometimes they cover the hotel altogether. But when it's clear, the views of the Poás Volcano are excellent.
There are three trails around the lodge, with various degrees of difficulty, taking you through mountain sloped cow pastures, past the dairy farm, and into the forest. Ask for binoculars at the front desk and spot all the birds. Gorgeous quetzals and jumpy hummingbirds are around. You can also ask for a guide to help you spot more wildlife.
And then there's the Poás Volcano itself, only 20 minutes away. Hike the national park and see the volcano and nearby lake crater. Go early in the morning because clouds can get in the way of getting the best views.
Other nearby activities include the nearby Waterfall Gardens and coffee tours. Horseback riding is also available here. Consider some whitewater rafting or a zip-lining tour if you want more excitement.

Great Food and Great Massages

Back inside, if all the hiking and exploring has made you sore, get a massage. The lodge's spa can make this happen for you, easing your muscles and relieving your stress with mixtures of natural oils, fruits, and herbs.
One of the great highlights of this lodge is the excellent food at the Bromelia Restaurant and Bar. The hotel sources its ingredients from its farm and the local area.
Enjoy milk from the farm and try the local strawberry jam. Their homemade bread and granola, made with the owners’ recipe, are also stellar! The Lodge offers breakfast during your stay, so don’t miss the chance to try these delicious bites.
