Manuel Antonio National Park

Forbes listed Manuel Antonio among the world’s 12 most beautiful National Parks. Moreover, it’s one of the most visited national parks in the country, despite being the smallest.

This small National Park is home to many animals, over 100 mammals, and 184 species of birds. This is the place for those looking to experience the abundance of wildlife found in Costa Rica.

With the help of your guide and some luck, you might see white-faced capuchin monkeys, red-back squirrel monkeys, two-toed sloths, three-toed sloths, coatis, agoutis, pelicans, toucans, deer (Costa Rica’s national mammal), colorful land crabs, the mangrove hummingbird, and many butterfly species. You might also see and hear the laughing falcon and the howler monkey. 

The guided tour goes at a relaxed pace. You wander through the well-maintained trails for about 2.5 to 3 hours. During this informative hike, you will learn about the area’s history and ecosystem as your guide helps you spot stunning animals. 

After the tour, we encourage you to stay the rest of the day and enjoy one of the beaches in the park. Find the sunny or shady spot of your choice and spend the day between the sand and the sea.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye on your personal belongings because monkeys and raccoons are curious, playful, and quick. They like to see what’s in your bag and claim it as their own. Once your sandwich or phone is in their hands, there’s no getting it back. This is funny, but we don’t want it to happen to you. Someone from your group should stay with your valuables, as at any beach, but especially here because of the funny monkeys.

Unfortunately, since Manuel Antonio Beach is in the national park, you must pay an entrance fee. However, other nearby beaches, like Biesanz, Espadilla Norte, and Playitas, are free since they are outside the national park.

Manuel Antonio National Park is known for white sand, bright blue water, curious, picnic-stealing monkeys and raccoons, and immense biodiversity. It’s also known for conservation efforts. So eco-tourists can feel good about visiting this park, where single-use plastics are not allowed.
