Hotel Belmar Overview

If you're a nature enthusiast wishing to spend time in the cloud forests of Monteverde while maintaining a certain level of comfort, then Hotel Belmar is for you. Although we'd recommend this hotel more for couples and single travelers, families are welcome at the Belmar.

What To Expect At Hotel Belmar

  • The best views in monteverde. High up in the cloud forest - or, we should say - above the cloud forest, the Hotel Belmar is one of the only hotels in Monteverde to offer open views of the Pacific Ocean.
  • In perfect tuned to nature. Guests come here for not only the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, the Children's Eternal Rainforest, and other natural treasures. The Hotel Belmar also sits on nine acres of pristine cloud forest to explore.
  • A family boutique hotel with fantastic service. The Belmar family built the hotel in 1985 and have been running it ever since. They've developed a tremendous talent for excellent service and attention to detail in that time.

What Not To Expect

  • A swimming pool. Hotel Belmar doesn't have a pool, although there is a large jacuzzi to enjoy after hiking, and some of the rooms/suites also come with their private jacuzzis/tubs.
  • A/C and Tvs in the rooms. With an average temperature below 20 C, air-conditioning is not needed in Monteverde. Neither do the rooms have TVs (although they do have wifi). So mother nature is all you need to watch here!
  • A resort feel. As a family-run boutique hotel with nine rooms, you won't have a resort experience at Hotel Belmar. Instead, it'll be a much more comfortable and personalized experience.

Hotel Belmar Is Featured in These Trips

If you want to stay at Hotel Belmar we recommend you to check out the following trips:

Hotel Belmar: An Elegant Oasis in the Cloud Forest

Open to nature enthusiasts since 1985; the Hotel Belmar is one of the original true eco-hotels in Monteverde, an area of Costa Rica famous for eco-tourism. This hotel is a pioneer of tourism in its community, sitting on nine acres of pristine cloud forest, complete with trails, streams, a waterfall lookout, and a pond.
It's still a family-run hotel, operated by the Belmar family who founded it. The chalet-style architecture of the hotel reflects the ten years Pedro Belmar spent in Austria before settling in Monteverde.
The Hotel Belmar is committed to sustainability and environmental protection. It's certified through the Costa Rican Tourism Board with a Level 5 (the highest available) CST (Certificate for Sustainable Tourism). Level 5 CST means the hotel takes the utmost care to save water and energy through various practices, including solar panels, harvesting rainwater, and much more. Feel free to speak to them about their sustainable programs while staying with them - they'll be happy to share their secrets!

The Best Views of Monteverde:

The main activity in Monteverde is nature and the cloud forests. People come here to hike, birdwatch, and experience the area's natural wonders. Horseback riding, zip lining, and other activities are also available here. Hotel Belmar also has a yoga studio and massage services open for those seeking a wellness vibe.
Hotel Belmar also offers a Farm-to-Table tour of their farm, Madre Tierra. Here, you'll learn about how the hotel produces the organic food it provides to the Restaurante Celajes, where you'll be eating when you stay. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, but Celajes is among the best, with a fresh and healthy menu for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The hotel also has the Celajes Lounge Bar for cocktails and the Belmar Tap Room and Beer Garden for craft beer lovers.

In Perfect Tune With Nature

Landscaped gardens surround the chalets, boasting lush native plants, a vegetable and herb garden, and a beautiful swan lake with a sundeck. In addition, the hotel has a private reserve with nine acres of cloud forest to explore. Aside from the personal trail in this reserve, Hotel Belmar is located near the entrance of other routes. The most notable of these is Cerro Amigos, the highest mountain in the region. On a clear day from here, you can see both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and the Arenal Volcano.
There’s no swimming pool at the Hotel Belmar, but that’s okay - this is a cooler part of Costa Rica, where a pool might be just a little too chilly for many. What they do have, though, is a large jacuzzi for guests to relax in after a day exploring the cloud forest.

A Family Boutique Hotel With Fantastic Service

Hotel Belmar offers nine different chalets—all with that Austrian Alps-inspired theme, with floor to ceiling windows—some of them inches away from the cloud forest canopy, and spacious bathrooms with bathtubs and ample balconies.
The Belmar Guest Rooms (called Peninsula Rooms and Peninsula Superior Rooms) in the main lodge have open-concept bathrooms with a two-person Jacuzzi overlooking the canopy—perfect for couples. The Sunset and Sunrise rooms offer 270-degree views of the Monteverde cloud forest and, in the distance, the Pacific Ocean and the Nicoya Peninsula.
Birdwatchers will love the spacious terraces —just perfect for birdwatching experiences right from the spacious terrace. Other rooms and suites are available, offering a blend of chalet-style luxury and natural vistas.
Whatever type of room or suite you're staying in, you'll find they come with a king-size bed (or two queen-size beds) complete with orthopedic mattresses and high-quality cotton linens. You'll also find locally crafted and hand-carved wooden furniture, a hairdryer, a safety deposit box, and complimentary WiFi. Pamper yourself in your room with cotton slippers, bathrobes, a mini-bar, and handmade, organic toiletries. Some rooms feature an open bathroom concept, so be sure to specify if that interests you (or doesn’t!).
