Cielo Lodge Overview
The Cielo Lodge is an award-winning, luxurious eco-lodge in the rainforest above the town of Golfito in southern Costa Rica. It sits on a 380-acre private reserve with views over the Golfo Dulce. With only six rooms, this hotel is truly boutique. It's the perfect place for couples, families (with older children - over ten years of age), and friends who love nature, peace, and quiet and seek luxurious comfort and personalized service.
What to Expect at Cielo Lodge
- A boutique feels. Cielo Lodge accommodates a maximum of 24 people at any one time. This is a small hotel, the definition of a boutique.
- Meals included. The closest restaurants to Cielo Lodge are in Golfito, about 30 minutes away on a rough road. If you're staying here, you're eating here, which is why the hotel includes meals in its rates.
- A relaxing experience, surrounded by nature. Whether you're active or not, participating in tours or not, you'll feel a sense of peace at Cielo Lodge, being surrounded by rainforest and wildlife. This is a place to unwind.
What Not to Expect
- Lots of people. A small hotel with six rooms, as far away from a "resort" as it's possible to be. If you seek a resort feel, you won't find it at Playa Cielo.
- Beach access. Although close to the coast (with fantastic views across the Golfo Dulce), it's important to remember that Playa Cielo Lodge is about 30 minutes into the hills, up a rough road, from the closest beach. So it's possible to spend time at the beach or on the ocean while staying here, but it's far away.

Cielo Lodge: A Hidden Gem Nestled up in the Hills
"Off-grid and off-the-beaten-track." That's what the Cielo Lodge says about itself. It also calls itself a "modern, minimalist eco-lodge," and that sounds about right.
We'd add a few things ourselves to a description of the Cielo Lodge. First, we'd say it's slightly more than minimalist and modern; we'd call it, in fact, the last word in boutique, understated, eco-luxury. And we're not the only ones to praise Cielo Lodge, either. Since it opened in the hills above the port of Golfito in Costa Rica's Southern Zone, Harper's Bazaar named it in its "20 Best Places to Travel in 2021" list. Forbes said it was one of its "Ten Cool New Hotels to Visit in 2021". Conde Naste Traveler put Cielo Lodge on its 2021 hot list of the best new hotels globally, while Travel and Leisure also put it on their "Editors' Picks" list of best unique hotels in the world for 2021.
In short, Cielo Lodge is famous and making waves with travel experts.
Understated Luxury
At Cielo Lodge, you'll find six large (660-square-foot), modern, open concept one-bedroom canopy suites - all elevated above the tree-tops to provide utter privacy. The suites offer gorgeous views of the surrounding primary and secondary rainforest, plus the Golfo Dulce and the town of Golfito.
Enjoying Nature at Cielo Lodge
Cielo Lodge has a fantastic infinity pool overlooking the Golfo Dulce to relax in with just the sounds of the rainforest to enjoy while cooling off. Nature lovers will enjoy the tours and activities available at the lodge, from guided hikes to birdwatching to mangrove tours and more. For a more relaxing experience, you can take a boat tour where the hotel will show you hidden beaches to enjoy on the Golfo Dulce. Spa services, yoga, and meditational exercises are also available - there's no better place to unwind.
Due to the remote location of Cielo Lodge, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be included in the daily rate. As a result, you can expect delicious, healthy food prepared with love, using local ingredients.
